Trade School Programs

Trade School programs last between two and four years. The curriculum is focused on a specific technical job that requires a certain skill set. Trade Schools may focus on entertainment careers, such as those in culinary arts, film making, music production, radio and television broadcasting

Other Trade Schools have programs in Business Administration or Paralegal Studies. Schools for the commercial arts, including graphic or web design, are common. In the area of healthcare, there are Trade Schools for nursing, radiology technician and other healthcare technician careers.

Some Trade Schools focus on technology, including computer technology or mechanical engineering. Students can also attend Trade School to start careers in welding, electrical work, carpentry and furniture upholstery.

Choosing a Trade School

The first step is to decide on a trade. Students can use a search tool, such as the College Matchmaker offered by the College Board, www.collegeboard.com. Students can search by geographical location to find a Trade School in their area.

College Board also suggests that students consider cost, academic requirements and program format. Students should make sure that a school is licensed or accredited. They can also check with trade organizations to find respected schools in a specific industry.
